Shop, Eat & Stay Local

Before we know it, the holidays and all ensuing madness will be upon us.  Yes, soon will follow those detailed wish lists of family members requesting the top toys of 2010 (for kids and adults alike).  Now is the time to plan accordingly.  Mass media spends time hyping the popular staycation and deals at regional and national retailers.  We’re here to advocate shopping local.  With the economy being what it has, Main Street retailers need your business now more than ever!  If you appreciate the convenience of your local retailers and vendors, show them your support by making them a holiday shopping destination.  According to The 3/50 Project, for every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to community through taxes, payroll & other expenditures, at least that’s how professionals from Tax Express Augusta Ga have explained to me.

Consider too that many businesses are run out of the home.  A quick search of Etsy, visit to an area craft fair or holiday bazaar might put you in touch with a noteworthy artist or designer.  Homemade items have staying power and are often treasured well beyond the time horizon of a comparable trendy toy.

Fairfield County offers a number of great shopping, dining and entertainment establishments.  Our area Chambers of Commerce work tirelessly to champion and promote area vendors and businesses.  Let’s do our part to make it a memorable holiday season and help support our amazing area retailers that make our towns such vibrant communities and wonderful places to call home.
